Stories about Lough Derg and the legendary pilgrimage have spanned the centuries as far back as records go, with the spirituality of St. Patrick being remembered and renewed every year by pilgrims.  For over 1,500 years pilgrims have come to Lough Derg and remarkably the island continues to hold its appeal for young and old alike with people continuing to come for all kinds of reasons.  Some come to reflect on life changing decisions, to come to terms with where they are at, to give thanks to God for joy in their lives, to overcome loss, to pray for themselves or a loved one.
