May is the month of Mary.  During this month, we will have a tour of the Marian Shrines in St. Teresa’s Parish.

13th May is the feast of Our Lady of Fatima.  We begin our tour by focusing on the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima in Maryland, built in 1956.  The theme of Our Lady of Fatima is one of Prayer and Conversion.  Both continue to be important for our spiritual life.  Please click here to see the video of the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima.

We continue our tour of the Marian Shrines in St. Teresa’s Parish by focusing on the remains of the first Shrine to Our Lady in the parish, this one was in the back garden area of 78B  Donore Avenue on the Church Grounds, built in 1928.  Today our theme is Faith.  We ask Mary, our sister in faith, to continue accompanying us in the life of the parish.  We pray for the gift of faith especially in this time of challenge.  Please click here to see the video of the remains of the first Shrine to Our Lady in the parish.

We continue our pilgrimage of the Marian Shrines in St. Teresa’s Parish.  On day three, our theme is Prayer and leads us to the 1955 Statue of Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Oscar Square, also called Rosary Park.  To say the Rosary in May is a meditation on the main events in the life of Jesus and a reminder of Mary’s faithful Presence.  She was present to her son, she is present to us now.  Please click here to see the video of Statue of Our Lady Queen of Heaven.

We continue our pilgrimage around the sites of the Marian Shrines in St. Teresa’s Parish.  Day four brings us to the Grotto built in the 1960’s near the church.  The theme of this Grotto is one of Hope.  Many went to this grotto for personal prayer, also after church weddings or First Holy Communion.  We can always ask Mary for her intercession in our needs and simply say: Hail Mary….. Please click here to see the video of the original Grotto.

Our pilgrimage around the sites of the Marian Shrines in the Parish of St. Teresa’s brings us on day five to the grotto of the Missionary Sisters of Charity (Mother Teresa’s Sisters) on the grounds of 78B Donore Avenue which was built in 1982.  The Theme of this grotto is one of Charity.  All of the work that the sisters carry out in done through Charity to children, families and the homeless in our Community and around the world. We ask Mary to be with us in our prayers as we say the Hail Mary.  Please click here to see the video of the grotto of the Missionary Sisters of Charity.

Our pilgrimage around the Marian Shrines in St. Teresa’s Parish brings us to the grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes in the church which was installed in 1997.  We ask Mary to be with all those who are sick and especially those ill due to the pandemic.  “Take my hand O Blessed Mother, hold it gently lest I fall.  I am nervous when I’m walking, so to thee I humbly call.  Guide me over every crossing, watch me while I am on the stairs.  Help me with my undertakings, lessen many of my cares.  Then when darkness falls upon me and I fear to be alone, take my hand O Blessed Mother, once again and lead me home”.  Please click here to see the video of the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.

On day 7 of our pilgrimage around the Marian Shrines in the Parish of St. Teresa’s we stop at the Grotto to Our Lady in the Missionary Sisters of Charity (Mother Teresa’s Sisters) house on the South Circular Road.  Having moved from 78B Donore Avenue where they had previously erected a Grotto, it didn’t take them long to establish a new grotto to Our Lady on these grounds. We pray the Hail Mary in English, Hindi Icelandic and Urdu owing to the multi-cultural and global reach of the Missionary Sisters Order.  Please click here to see the video of the grotto of the Missionary Sisters of Charity on the South Circular Road.

On day 8 we conclude our pilgrimage around the Marian Shrines in the Parish of St. Teresa’s in the Presentation Sisters convent in Warrenmount, Blackpitts.  The Presentation Sisters, founded by Nano Nagle, the Lady of the Lantern, arrived here in 1892.  Warrenmount today hosts both primary and secondary schools and a centre for adult education in the parish.  Please click here to see the video of the grotto in the Presentation Sisters’ convent in Warrenmount.
