On Christmas Eve, Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Holy Doors of the other three Papal Basilicas – St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and St. Paul Outside-the-Walls – were also opened. This marked the start of a Jubilee Year. In keeping with Church tradition, a Holy Year is celebrated every 25 years, to give every generation a chance to experience that special time of grace and mercy in their lives.
