May is traditionally a ‘Marian’ month, a month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Traditionally, families have set up a ‘May altar’ and made a special effort to recite the Rosary in this month. When Mary’s earthly life was completed, she was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven. There she now already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection and intercedes for us that we too will share in it as well. May we strive to honour Mary by meditating on her example and may we try to imitate some of her virtues, her faith, her love, her humility and her eageress to do only the will of God.
The beautiful prayer Regina Coeli or “Queen of Heaven” replaces the Angelus during the 50 days of Easter.
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. For He whom you were worthy to bear, alleluia. Has risen, as he said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech you, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
