One Christmas Eve, a young Mexican boy was walking to his local church. Because he was very poor, he couldn’t afford a present for the baby Jesus in the crib. This made him really sad. All of a sudden, while on his way to the church, an angel appeared to him and told him to pull up some weeds that were growing at the side of the road, and bring them to the crib for Jesus. The little boy did as the angel had told him. As he laid the weeds in the crib, he bowed his head and prayed. As he did, the weeds began to change to little bright flowers with star-shaped leaves. Everybody was amazed at what had happened. We call these flowers Poinsettia or ‘Flor de la Nochebuena’ in Spanish, the Flower of the Holy Night or the Flower of Christmas Eve.
